[Rescheduled Event!] - Live Q&A with Jennifer Keesmaat, Doug Gordon *and* Erica Woods
Going beyond #SafeStreets #SharedStreets into #SafePlaces
In early June, Livable City was set to host a live Q&A event with Jennifer Keesmaat and Doug Gordon, but we decided to postpone this event for several reasons including it just seeming out of context and a distraction from the Black Lives Matter and police brutality protests taking place. These needed to be front and center and we were happy to make way for these important public outcries.
But as promised, Livable City is once again very excited to announce the return of our first ever live online event where you can ask your questions around how we all can create the safe places that we need our cities and towns to be amidst the global pandemic and social unrest.
When: *This* Friday, August 7 at 1 PM EDT :: (5 PM UTC)
Bring your questions on the following:
There’s a lot of discussion and a diverse set of actions taken attempting to remedy the lack of safe space to be outside in our cities and towns. But what do we mean when we say safe space. What is safe space? And who are these spaces for?
Amidst the pandemic and social unrest, how do we navigate the changes that are happening in our cities and our towns in a way that brings truly safe space through vulnerability to as many people as possible? And what exactly do we mean by vulnerability?
COVID-19 was originally thought to be the “great equalizer” but the data has shown quite the opposite. What’s going on here and what can and should be done to change this?
We’ll try and get through as many questions as possible working them into our panel-style conversation.
We have three amazing people with a diverse set of experience in shaping, designing and creating these places with strong emphasis on human connection and diversity:
Jennifer Keesmaat: former Toronto Chief City Planner, mayoral candidate and urban planner.
Jennifer produced her own podcast Invisible City.
Jennifer hails from Toronto, ON
Doug Gordon: previous podcast guest, all around great guy and co-host of The War on Cars podcast.
Listen to Doug’s two part interview on Livable City back in March of 2020.
Doug hails from Brooklyn, NY
Erica Woods: global HR executive at Canonical with a heavy emphasis on culture and diversity, employee relations, recruiting, and delivery of people-oriented processes and solutions.
Erica hails from Long Beach, CA
Hope you can all join, looking forward to seeing you online this Friday! Please help spread the word for this event and share it with someone.
